Media influence
A little bit in a shock after I watched a strange movie scene. A middle-eastern story about a father that kills his son because he thought his son wants after his throne.
It is incredible the influence a movie scene can have on us. Film is probably the media that can impress the human mind the most. This amazing combination of seeing and hearing can almost give you the chill of being a witness of a live moment.
I am wondering of the impression it lets on our character, the way we think of the world. I can still hear the music of the scene and see the face of the father as his son was dying.
How much does a film influence us? How much of this influence is conscientious? If you read a book that tells you what habits is good to develop or what mindset you should adhere to, you are making a conscious decision. You decide it is good to be that way, to think that way, you make a conscious decision to follow the path and put effort into becoming the way you decided.
It is not the case with movies entertainment in general. I'm thinking here of theater, soap operas, movies, video games, etc. They can produce a shift in you without realizing it. On the logical side, you might not even think it would be a good shift, you might not even want it. But they work with emotions. Emotions influence us on the subtle level. They might lead us to paths that we might not really want to go on.
